Overview and Program Outcomes
Electrical Power Systems is an introductory subject in the field of electric power systems and electrical to mechanical energy conversion. Electric power has become increasingly important as a way of transmitting and transforming energy in industrial, military and transportation uses. Electric power systems are also at the heart of alternative energy systems, including wind and solar electric, geothermal and small-scale hydroelectric generation.
Power system engineering is about keeping things in balance. Not just the balance between generation and load or between production and consumption of reactive power. It is also about the balance between the cost of energy and its environmental impact or the balance between the reliability of the supply and the investments needed to develop the system. These programs will teach the students how to quantify both sides of these equations and then how to improve the balances through technological advances and the implementation of sophisticated computing techniques.
The course aims at:
- Providing an advanced education in electrical power engineering.
- Giving graduates the education, knowledge, and skills they need to make sound decisions in a rapidly changing electricity supply industry.
- Giving a sound understanding of the principles and techniques of electrical power engineering.
- Helping graduates in broadening their knowledge of the issues and problems faced by electrical power engineers.
- Delivering a solid working knowledge of the techniques used to solve these problems.

- PO: 2 PROBLEM ANALYSIS: Identity, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using the first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- PO: 3 DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT OF SOLUTIONS: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- PO: 4 CONDUCT INVESTIGATIONS OF COMPLEX PROBLEMS: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis, and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
- PO: 5 MODERN TOOL USAGE: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
- PO: 6 THE ENGINEER AND SOCIETY: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

- PO: 12 LIFE-LONG LEARNING: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
- PSO1:Able to apply the knowledge gained during the program from Mathematics, Basic Computing, Basic Sciences, and Social Sciences in general and all electrical courses, in particular, to identify, formulate and solve real-life problems faced in industries and/or during research work.
- PSO2: Be able to design, develop & take up research with eco-friendly innovative solutions to any type of Electrical Engineering problem.
- PSO3: Solve ethically and professionally various Electrical Engineering problems in societal and environmental contexts and communicate effectively.
