Introduction:
On 24th September 2024, St. Peter’s Engineering College marked the celebration of NSS Foundation Day as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign. The event focused on the theme of Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata, promoting cleanliness as a natural habit and instilling the value of sanitation in daily life.
Inauguration:
The event commenced at 10:00 AM at the College Campus, with an enthusiastic gathering of students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers. The NSS Unit Coordinator delivered a welcome address, emphasizing the importance of National Service Scheme (NSS) and its contribution to society, particularly in initiatives related to cleanliness, health, and community service.
Keynote Address:
The principal of St. Peter’s Engineering College, in his keynote address, highlighted the significance of cleanliness and sanitation for the betterment of society. He referred to Swachhata Hi Seva as an essential part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, aligning the college’s efforts with national objectives.
Activities:
The NSS Foundation Day celebration involved a series of activities aimed at spreading awareness about cleanliness and inspiring behavioral change among participants. These activities included:
- Swachhata Awareness Drive – Volunteers conducted cleanliness drives within the campus, cleaning areas like classrooms, corridors, and gardens. Banners and posters promoting cleanliness were displayed to engage the college community.
- Pledge Ceremony – All participants took the Swachhata Pledge, promising to contribute towards a cleaner and greener India. The pledge, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of sanitation, emphasized personal responsibility for maintaining cleanliness.
- Cleanliness Rally – The NSS volunteers organized a rally across the campus, carrying placards with messages related to hygiene and environmental conservation. The rally aimed to create awareness about the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and encouraged active participation from students and staff.
- Guest Lecture – An invited guest speaker from a local NGO working in the area of sanitation addressed the participants, sharing valuable insights on how small efforts can lead to a large impact in maintaining community cleanliness. The speaker also discussed the significance of sustainable waste management practices.
- Poster and Slogan Competitions – Students participated in competitions focused on the theme of cleanliness, where they showcased their creativity through posters and slogans promoting the message of Swachh Bharat. The winners were awarded prizes, and their artwork was displayed across the campus.
Conclusion:
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the NSS Program Officer, acknowledging the dedication and efforts of the volunteers, participants, and organizing team. The NSS Foundation Day not only celebrated the rich legacy of NSS but also reinforced the core message of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024.
